My first impression of the other contenders was that they were all talented, but I could take them! I can get pretty competitive and I wanted to make it clear to the other contenders that I was there to WIN! When I found out there would be 14 contenders instead of 12 I thought, “WHAT?! Why are there 14 contenders? That is just two more people I am going to have to beat!”
I think that the thing that makes me stand out from the rest of the group is my voice. My voice does not sound like a single other contenders’. I have a background in jazz and sing pop music, so I think that it gives me an edge! My voice is also naturally very raspy. I am different from the other contenders because I have no problem speaking what is on my mind at any given moment. If I am annoyed by you, you will clearly know it.
Last chance performances definitely intimidated me the most going into the competition. They just seem really scary and that is not something I wanted to do.
My reaction to the homework assignment being “Born This Way” was, “YES! The first homework assignment is a song that I know!” Haha I think that the song is an amazing song for Individuality week! I was very happy with that choice. I could not believe that Lea Michele was there to watch me perform! How many people get to say that?! I was very happy with my performance. I think that the adrenaline rush from seeing Lea Michele a few feet away from me definitely helped, but I was successfully able to show my personality with one very short line.
I have always been in love with Zach Woodlee! I was also really excited to meet Brooke for the first time. The choreography session was so much fun! I just could not believe that I was learning choreography from Zach Woodlee!
Recording with Nikki for the first time was so exciting! I have always wanted to work in a studio so it was like a dream come true to have a one-on-one studio session with Nikki! I tried a few different things with my part of the song and she told me what she liked and didn’t like about it. Nikki was really helpful and I loved getting to work with her!
Going into the first music video, I was nervous beyond words! I didn’t know what it was going to be like meeting Erik for the first time, so I was freaking out a little bit. I have never shot a music video so I was nervous about how to sing my line and I wanted to make sure that I made a good first impression with him! Aside from the nerves, I was really excited and grateful to get the opportunity to shoot a music video.
I feel like I performed really well in the music video, considering I have never done anything like that before. It was so much fun! I tried to just take everything Erik told me and work with it to come up with something cool!
It was a BIG surprise when Robert told me I had lost some of my personality. I pride myself on my personality and it is something that just oozes out of me naturally. I never expected him to say that! I may have been a little more reserved in front of the mentors because I wanted to be professional about it, but I never thought that it came across as though I lost my personality. It was really hard to hear that from Robert.
I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach that I was going to be in the bottom 3, but I didn’t want to listen to it. I could not stop crying on stage! Every time another name was called back, I started crying a bit more. All that was going through my head was, “Please call my name! Please just call my name!” I was really scared and really nervous about being in the bottom 3, especially because it was the first week!
I was so happy with my song selection for my Last Chance Performance. “Without You” by David Guetta is a song that I knew pretty well. I have never performed it before, but I was just so relieved to be familiar with the song. It was a lot less stressful knowing that I was familiar with the song I was about to perform in two hours for Ryan Murphy!
In the end, I was so pleased with my performance. I literally felt like I left my heart and soul out on that stage for Ryan to see and I could not have asked for a better Last Chance Performance! I REMEMBERED ALL OF MY WORDS!!!!! What a relief!!!! Haha
